ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION

13.02.2021

Air pollution is the introduction of chemical and gaseous substances into the air that change the structure and the natural composition of the earth's atmosphere.

 CAUSES OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION

  • Sulphur compounds are the result of biological decomposition, of combustion from fossil fuels and organic matter.
  • Carbon compounds are gases in the atmosphere that contribute to the greenhouse effect, which alters the thermal equilibrium of the planet and leads to global warming.
  • Hydrocarbons resulting from the combustion of wood, naphtha and diesel fuel, i.e. the gases from the exhaust fumes of means of transport.

 SOLUTIONS FOR ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION

  • Do not keep a high temperature in your home or other buildings.
  • If the place to go is nearby, it is better to go on foot or by bicycle; if it is far away, then public transport is preferable to travelling by car.
  • Use cars powered by renewable and less polluting energy such as methane, electricity, hydrogen.
  • Use natural gas instead of firewood.
  • Consume zero-mileage products to avoid long journeys and therefore pollution.
  • Check the engine periodically to avoid hydrocarbon leaks.
  • Insulate buildings to prevent heat loss, saving on production costs.
  • Drive at a constant speed, avoiding constant braking and starting.
